The Rotary Club of the Soar Valley was founded in 1976. In its Thirty years of service it has raised well in excess of £130,000 for a variety of community and international service projects. The club is a part of Rotary International District 1070 covering Leicestershire/ Northamptonshire, and parts of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire .
In the District there are more than eighty five Rotary clubs and over 2700 Rotarians. District 1070 is the largest in terms of number of clubs and one of the smallest in terms of physical area. The Rotary Club of the Soar Valley meets every Monday evening at the Rothley Court Hotel .
Rotary is an organisation of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and promote international understanding and goodwill. Throughout the world there are well over 1.23 million Rotarians in over one hundred and sixty six countries and geographical regions.
In the Thirty years since it was founded, the Rotary Club of the Soar Valley has supported many local charities including Loros, The Rainbow Appeal and the Cheshire Homes. In business, Rotarians seek to maintain high ethical standards and as a Club, we also aim to help those less fortunate.
Projects have included our assistance with the sensory garden at East Goscote for people with severe multiple disabilities; support for the Laura Centre & Rothley St Johns Ambulance; Loros and Rainbows; The Blind; Local Scouts; Sailing For The Disabled at Water Mead Park; The Heart Start Project and Prostaid. We continue also to support Rotary's work towards drug and stroke awareness. In addition, the club has helped many local projects such as helping to fund local young people with overseas voluntary work.
The club also responds to national and international emergencies as appropriate with gifts of money from its charity account. In recent months the club has responded to the Tsunami Disaster with gifts of £1970.00 from its charity account
It has also helped many individuals both young and old; the local Scout Group, Young Inventor of the Year, Youth Speaks, Young Chef and the Rotary Youth Leadership in Action. (RYLA).
In addition to supporting local and national charities it is also active in the international field. It has given several thousands of pounds to help wipe out the scourge of polio, donated sums of money to Indian Eye camps to enable mass cataract operations to be performed, helped to supply clean water to many African villages and sent scores of disaster boxes to those areas that have been stricken by floods, earthquakes or war.
Through the money that it has donated to Rotary Foundation it has been instrumental in playing its part in arranging for thousands of foreign post graduate students to further their studies in this country. These students when they return to their country of origin are among the most fervent supporters of the British way of life.
The Club meets each week on Mondays (not Bank Holidays) at The Rothley Court Hotel, 7.30 for 8.00pm. Visitors are welcome to attend meetings and should use the 'contact' button to make a booking at least 24 hours before the date of the meeting they wish to attend.
